What is CCRSPA?

The Charles County Retired School Personnel Association is a group of individuals who
work to protect and enhance the welfare of its members. In cooperation with the
Maryland Retired Teachers Association and National Retired Teachers Association; the local association is very active in supporting the local school system. Many of its members volunteer in the schools as mentors or with assisting students on a one-to-one basis with instructional help.

The Charles County Retired Teachers Association (CCRTA) will pay the local dues ($10.00) for ALL new retirees.

The Maryland Retired Teachers Association (MRTA) dues are $15.00 @ year.  The CCRTA/MRTA year begins July 1st. In order to receive full membership benefits, join before November 1st.  Call Cecelia Spinks (301-645-3340) for membership applications and information.

The National Retired Teachers Association (NRTA) is with the AARP. Ask to include NRTA with your AARP members.  There is no extra cost.

Ruth Michel Inducted into Hall of Fame
Congratulations to Ruth Michel for being inducted into the Maryland Senior Citizens Hall of Fame for 2005.
Rugh Michel  received the recognition at the MSCHF luncheon in October at Michaels Eight Avenue restaurant in Glen Burnie, MD.. Those selected by a special panel of judges are inducted into the Senior Citizens Hall of Fame and have their names inscribed in the archives of the Hall of Fame located in the Ethel Percy Andrus Library at the Bayview Medical Center of the John Hopkins Medical System.

          2005-2006 Objectives for CCRTA

·        Increase membership by 10% or more by November 2006.

·        To record the hours of volunteer services to youth beyond the traditional classroom setting.

·        Publish four CCRSPA newsletters which include dates and location of meetings and other activities of the organization, news about members and information about the deaths of fellow members.  Announcements of meetings will be included in the newsletters..

·        Update and maintain the CCRSPA web page that is a link of the CCBOE web page, and to organize a phone / email tree to notify general membership of illnesses or deaths of fellow members.

·        Nominate at least one CCRSPA member for induction into the Senior Citizens Hall of Fame.

·        Provide a $500 scholarship to a senior at each Charles County high school who is pursuing a degree in education.

·        Implement and update the CCRSPA Administrative Procedures Manual guidelines to maintain organizational uniformity.

·        Continue the Old Port Tobacco One-Room School program (training, instruction, maintain facilities, and funding).

·        To revise A Legacy:  One and Two Room Schools in Charles County, and publish the revised edition.
