Kristin Shields

Kristin Shields has been selected to be the first principal at the new William A. Diggs Elementary School.

Mrs. Shields is serving as vice principal of Mt. Hope/Nanjemoy Elementary School, a position she will leave at the end of this school year. She has already started working in her capacity as principal of Diggs by helping with the planning for the opening of the school.

Mrs. Shields began her teaching career in 1991 as an elementary teacher in the Prince George’s County Public School system where she later served as a mathematics specialist from 1995-99. She was the Challenge Grant Coordinator at Rose Valley Elementary School in Prince George’s from 1999-2000, where she worked with school improvement, budget, staff development and the after-school program. Shields came to Charles County Public Schools in 2000 serving first as vice principal at J.C. Parks Elementary School and then as vice principal at Mt. Hope/Nanjemoy.

Shields earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Indiana University of PA, and her master’s degree in school administration and supervision from Bowie State University.

Sandra McDuffie  

Sandra McDuffie

Sandra McDuffie serves as the first vice principal at Diggs.

Ms. McDuffie’s teaching career first began in 1993 as an elementary teacher in Hillsborough County Public Schools in Tampa, Florida. She moved to the Maryland area in 1994 where she taught sixth-grade for several years at Ft. Washington Forest Science and Math Technology School in Prince George’s County Public Schools. Ms. McDuffie was hired as the Challenge Grant Coordinator from 2000-2001 at Rose Valley Elementary School in the Prince George’s County Public Schools System. For the past five years, Ms. McDuffie has served as the vice-principal at Walter J. Mitchell Elementary School in Charles County Public Schools.

Mrs. McDuffie earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee, FL and her Master’s degree in school administration and supervision from Bowie State University.
