About Redistricting

Soon, the Board of Education of Charles County will set the final boundaries for the William A. Diggs Elementary School enrollment district. We are pleased with the progress of the building and excited that we will soon know the students who will be selected to be the first to attend Diggs.

A Redistricting Committee has submitted two proposals to Superintendent James E. Richmond and the Board for consideration. The Superintendent and Board have scheduled a public hearing to gather input on the alternatives. The hearing is set for Tuesday, Feb. 28, 7 p.m., at Westlake High School. Sign up will begin a half hour before the hearing begins and end at 7 p.m. Speakers will be given three minutes to address the Board.

Following the hearing, the Superintendent will make one recommendation to the Board at the March 14 meeting. A second public hearing on the Superintendent’s recommendation is scheduled for Tuesday, March 28, 7 p.m., at North Point High School.

The Board plans to make a final decision on redistricting on April 18. Students and parents will be notified and the redistricting takes effect in August 2006.

A synopsis of the alternatives is available in Fact Sheet 2 and a complete text of the proposals is also available on-line.
