Frequently Asked Questions
-
What are the Judy Centers?
The Judy Center at Dr. Mudd Elementary School was established in 2001 to
provide comprehensive early childhood education programs and family services to
children ages Birth through Kindergarten and their families. Family support
services are also available. Our goal is to make sure children are ready for
1st Grade. There are 26 community agencies, organizations, businesses, and
individuals working together to ensure that children are socially, emotionally,
cognitively, and physically ready for school. Most services, programs, and
activities are free. The Judy Center at Eva Turner Elementary School was
established in 2002. In 2004, we began providing services to children at C.
Paul Barnhart Elementary School.
-
Who is Judy?
The Judy Centers are named for Judith P. Hoyer, a lifelong child advocate and
the supervisor of early childhood for Prince George's County Public Schools.
She died of cancer several years ago. There are 24 Judy Centers in the State
of Maryland who are carrying on Judy's philosophy of providing comprehensive
family services in or near the school setting. She is the late wife of our
Congressman, Steny Hoyer.

Who is part of the Judy Center?
Children who are enrolled in Head Start, Pre-K or Kindergarten at Dr. Mudd or
Eva Turner are automatically enrolled in the Judy Centers and are eligible for
the services that are offered. Many children, birth through age 3, are served
primarily by our partners in their home settings. There are also programs at
the schools for children birth to 3 and their
parents who live in the school zones . In 2004, we began providing services to children at C. Paul Barnhart
