Who is Judy?
To Judy Hoyer, improving the lives of
young children was her life's dream and her life's work. Before she passed
away, Mrs. Hoyer had succeeded in shaping and enhancing the futures of thousands
of students throughout Maryland. Her life shines as an example of what
one individual can accomplish by boldly pursuing opportunities in the
educational process to bring about positive change for children.
As Coordinating Supervisor of Early Childhood Education in Prince George's
County, Maryland, Mrs. Hoyer set the curriculum for thousands of young children,
and she implemented innovative, ground-breaking teaching techniques. It
was her vision, inspiration and hard work which brought to life the concept
of co-locating educational and other community services in the school setting
to serve children
and their families.
Judy Hoyer never sought personal recognition or reward. She simply focused
on having the community provide the highest possible quality of education
- and life - to children and their families. This unselfish devotion to
all children is her legacy and that's why Judy Centers have been established
across the state of Maryland.
There are 24 Judy Centers, two of which are located in the community of St. Charles in Waldorf in Charles County,
Maryland. The Judy Center at Dr. Samuel A. Mudd Elementary School is located at 820 Stone Avenue and the Judy Center at Eva Turner Elementary School is located at 1000 Bannister Circle.
