The Freshman Seminar is designed to promote a successful transition from eighth to ninth grade and to promote academic and social success for all students. Freshman Seminar will examine 21st century skills all students need for success in school and life. Connect with Kids is a program that is used often in Freshman Seminar. Lessons address topics such as Caring and Compassion, Freedom, Civility, Diligence, Courage, Respect, Helpfulness, and Trustworthiness.
The Emmy award-winning Connect with Kids television serious features real children and teens sharing their true stories about the challenges they face every day. Warning Signs (mental health) Available December 19, 2007-Depression, anxiety, thoughts of suicide. Many health care professionals argue that these mental health problems affect more of our children today than ever, and many of these kids are undiagnosed.
Count Me Out (attendance) Available January 16, 2008-Every day in America, about four million children are not in school. Many are sick, some have family emergencies, but hundreds of thousands more are skipping class unexcused.
