Mary began her teaching career in 1949 at LaPlata High School.

There she met Robert Matula, a Physical Education Teacher and coach.

Bob and Mary married on August 25, 1950.

Mrs. Matula was a Science Teacher in Charles County for 36 years.

She was the epitome of the description "Master Teacher."

Her dedication to and interest in students was not limited to the classes she taught.

She willingly contributed her many talents to essentially every aspect of education.

Her own words best describe the secret of her effectiveness and success.  She was often heard saying, "Teaching is not a job, it is a joy!"

Mary's death occurred on September 26, 1985.
