being recognized for the wonderful work they do in the classroom. This month,
we have been informed that three teachers have received awards in their
field. Ms. Mary Rodgers, Grade 5 teacher, has been named SMECO Elementary
Math Teacher of the Year for Charles County. Mrs. Robin Riddick, Grade 1
teacher, has received the annual
Walmart award as Teacher of the Year. She was nominated by a parent of one of
her students. Finally, Mrs. Leslie Otten has received the Merit Award from
the Maryland State Department of Education’s Minority Achievement Committee
for her work in closing the minority achievement gap in third grade. The
three teachers are well deserving of their award, and serve as
representatives of all of the teachers at our school who strive to do the
best for their students. Middleton Students Send Valentine’s to
Troops Abroad In
keeping with our ICARE theme, some students sent Valentine’s Cards to the troops
stationed in Iraq. As a result, a flag that was flown over the American
Embassy in Baghdad on February 22, 2006 has been presented to our school. We
will be observing this special relationship our students have with the troops
by proudly displaying the flag in a showcase. ICARE kids for February and March: Shahid Abdurrahman, Jenna Abney*,

9:00-10:30 at Middleton Hall off of Renner Road in Waldorf. The PTO will be
working with fifth grade parents on special recognition for these students as
part of the proceeds earned from the Spaghetti Dinner held in February. See
your child’s teacher or the main office at school if you would like to assist
in any way. Hopefully, we can all come together to make these final
activities for our fifth graders something special. Accelerated
Reader Students Shine
We are fully
implementing the Accelerated Reader program at our school this year. Students
can read an AR book and take a quiz on the book and earn points for their
correct answers. These books are found in the media center and in the
classrooms. Students can take the quizzes in class, at the computer lab, or
at the media center. The top students in the school are as
follows: Elizabeth Steinbach, Kayle Cossa, Chauncey Barham, Heather Tippett,
Kyre Combs, Justin Ryan, Brandon Alvey, Kha-Ai Tran, Jaevon Hardy, and Tarar
Richardson. Arthur Middleton School Time Changes for 2006-2007 School Year Hopefully, you received and read the
