May, 2007 Final Day
of School is Near! For those of you who may not have heard, Wednesday, June 13, is the last day for the 2006-2007 school
year. Even though it is the last day, it is a very important day. We will be
having our fourth quarter awards assembly that day for grades 1-4, and we
will be distributing report cards. I want to thank you, the parents, for all of your hard work
with your children. Together we can continue to have high expectations for
our children both academically and in their behavior. I hope that our staff
will always be known for its family atmosphere, where every teacher is interested
in the success of each child as if they are their own. Bob Chase is the
President of the National Education Association. He writes about what parents
can and should do to provide meaningful learning time during the lengthy
summer vacation. We hope that all parents will continue to find time to
continue the learning process with their children this summer. Have a safe and happy summer! -Greg Miller, Principal Middleton Owls Shine at County Math
Competition Saturday, April 21, proved to be a special day for Arthur
Middleton Elementary. Our grade four and grade five math teams did a
remarkable job. The year’s team finished higher than previous
year’s teams. The fifth grade team finished in the top half out
of 20 schools. Dang-Quang Tran finished
first among 140 fifth grade students in the entire county!!!! Bradley King had the top score on our
fourth grade team. READING
NIGHT THIS WEEK
Hopefully, you can
come to our third and final Parent Reading Night this Friday, May 18, from 6-8 PM. A picnic
style dinner will be served free of charge at 6:00. Stay for “Reading
Bingo” and you could win a prize!!! BACKYARD HABITAT BEGINS As many
of you know, our school is currently involved in a backyard habitats/wetlands
project. This area will be used for educational purposes in science, math,
social studies, and writing. We are
beginning the planting phase of the project. A large number of native plants
will be planted along the banks of the stream, to serve as a learning
experience, and to minimize erosion of the stream bank. We are inviting all
students to help plant the plants on May
21, 22, and 23 for approximately 2 hours each day. Younger students will
be assisted by students in the upper grades. Students
will need to bring older clothing and footwear (boots would be the best).
Students can change into this clothing before going outside if they wish.
They should also bring raingear if the weather forecast indicates rain on
those days. We are
also looking for parent volunteers to help during these days. If there are
any parents who have hand augers to help in breaking the soil, please let the
school know as well. SPRING ARTS SHOWCASE DATE CHANGED The Spring Arts Showcase Parent
Night has been changed to Wednesday, June 6, at 6:30. Students will show off
their expertise in art, pottery, dancing, and music. They have been busy in
their Specials area classes in preparation for this showcase. New Staff Member Announced We are very pleased to introduce Ms.
Vernell Jones, as our new student registration secretary. She is replacing
Mrs. Cathy Reed, who is moving to North Caroline effective June 1. Please
introduce yourself to Ms. Jones, and identify yourself to her, as she learns
about our school community. Mrs. Reed will be sorely missed, and we wish her
all the best of luck!!! Previous Newsletters May 2006 |
