NPHS-PTSO 2008-2009
Meeting Schedule

The North Point High School PTSO would like to welcome all new and returning students, parents and teachers.  Our PTSO meets each month to discuss issues that affect our students and our school. We also offer the opportunity for our parents, teachers, and students to express their concerns and have their questions answered.  Please join us at our meetings, the first Thursday of each month, unless otherwise noted **.  Meetings are held in the NPHS auditorium and begin at 7pm.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Tentative Schedule of 2008-2009 NPHS-PTSO Meetings:

** Thursday - 8/21/08    - 9th Grade and New Student Orientation @ 6:30p.m.

Thursday -  9/04/08      - College Essay Writing tips and Senior Portfolio Information – Ms. Akins, NPHS English                   
Dept. Chair, will be presenting “How to write a College Essay” – helpful tips and processes that
are recommended for developing an excellent college application essay will be included. 
Information on the planning process for underclassman to begin collecting items for the Senior
Portfolio will also be presented. As well as, information on the set up and design of North Point’s         
Senior Portfolio.

** Tuesday -  9/23/08    - Back to School Night – Open House @ 6:30p.m.

Thursday - 10/02/08      - Safety and Security Night – Our school’s Resource Officer will conduct a very informative                     
meeting covering today’s teens and safety issues.  Topics to be covered:  Driver’s Safety, 
Internet Safety, and tips on how to help our students avoid Smoking, Drugs, and Gang activity. 

Thursday - 11/06/08      - Making the Most of High School Tests and Assessments – Ms. Bailer, Ms. Edman, and Ms.
Grow, will be our guest speakers for this informative night about  HSA testing, SAT,
ACT, and the ASVAB testing.  Further information about Mock SAT and ACT tests offered both
by the school and the PTSO will be available at this meeting.

Thursday - 12/04/08      - Kaplan Mock SAT/ACT Give Back Night – This is the review night for parents and students
who chose to participate in the November 8th PTSO sponsored Mock SAT/ACT testing.  A
representative from Kaplan will be present to review  the testing scores, give back the students’
graded tests, and offer some helpful test taking tips as well.  The opportunity to enroll in a Kaplan 
SAT/ACT prep class will also be available – but is not required to participate.  More information
about the Mock SAT/ACT test will be available beginning in August.

** Thursday - 01/08/09     - NPHS Student and Parent Course Selection Information Night   - Information for all grade
levels on the “how to’s”  of course selection for the following school year will be presented by              
our NPHS Guidance dept. staff.  Information will also be presented for the parents and students
who are currently in  the 9th grade about the transition to the 10th grade following the course   
selection presentation.

Thursday  - 02/05/09      - NPHS AP Night – AP programs planned for 2009 - 2010 school year will be presented
complete with student testimonials from this year’s NPHS AP classes.  Department Chairs and
current AP Teachers will also be on hand to answer your questions.

Thursday -  03/05/09        - College Admissions 101 – The Kaplan Company will be supplying a guest speaker for this
informative presentation on how to go about choosing a college, what to expect when applying
to college and an over all review of the application process.   

Thursday  - 04/02/09       - 11th and 12th Grade Transition Night and PTSO Officer Nominations – Students and
parents of current 10th and 11th graders are invited to come out and participate in a presentation
by our NPHS Guidance dept about what to expect during the Junior and Senior years of high
school.  Timeframes, deadlines,  special events, and educational requirements will be
among the topics presented.

Thursday  - 05/07/09        - Year in Review and PTSO Elections - Come out and express your concerns over the past
year, share topic suggestions for next years PTSO, and get a sneak peak at the End of the
Year Activities. -- NPHS-PTSO -- Elections of Officers for the 2007-2008 school year.

Thursday -  06/04/09        - Executive Board Meeting – Installation of PTSO Officers and planning session for 2009 –
2010 school year.

 2008-2009  North Point PTSO Goals: 
We plan to: 

• Be a parent, student and teacher resource offering educational and informative meetings to facilitate a successful High School experience for all of NPHS’s students.

• Offer information on college and career preparedness to ease our student’s transition into college and/or their chosen careers.  

• Raise funds to help purchase needed items that support our goals

• Facilitate better communication between the parents and the administration. 

•  Leave no Parent, Teacher or Student Behind.

We're ready for next year and are excited for you to join us!  This is our school and together we are going to help make it a great place for our children to be educated and grow into successful adults.
