NPHS-PTSO 2007-2008

 

The North Point High School PTSO would like to welcome all new and returning students, parents and teachers.  Our PTSO meets each month to discuss issues that affect our students. We also offer the opportunity for our parents, teachers, and students to express their concerns and have their questions answered.  Please join us at our meetings, the first Thursday of each month unless otherwise noted **.  Meetings are held in the NPHS auditorium and begin at 7pm.  We look forward to seeing you there!

 

Tentative Schedule of 2007-2008 NPHS-PTSO Meetings:

 

** Wednesday, 8/22/07 - New Student Orientation @ 6:30 p.m.

 

 

  Thursday, 9/06/07       - Making the most of high school tests and assessments- Ms. Bailer, Ms. Edman, and Ms. Grow, will be                                            

                                         our guest speakers for this informative night about not only MSA and HSA assessments,

                                         but information about the PSAT, SAT, ACT, and the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational                                 

                                         Aptitude Battery) will also be presented.  Dates and further information about Mock SAT and ACT testing

                                         offered both by the school and the PTSO will also be available at this meeting.

 

 

**Tuesday, 09/25/07   -  Back to School Night – Open House @6:30 p.m.

 

  Thursday, 10/04/07    -  Safety and Security Night -  Our school’s Resource Officer will conduct a very informative

                                         meeting covering today’s teens and safety issues.  Topics to be covered:  Driver’s Safety, Internet Safety,

                                            and tips on how to help our students avoid Smoking, Drugs, and Gang activity.  

 

 

  Thursday, 11/01/07     - College Essay Writing tips and Senior Portfolio information -   Ms. Akins, NPHS English Dept. Chair,

                                         will be giving a presentation on how to write a college essay – helpful tips and processes that are                   

                                         recommended for developing an excellent college application essay will be included.  Information on the                          

                                         planning process for underclassman to begin collecting items for their Senior Portfolio will also be

                                         presented.  As well as information on the set up and possible design of North Point’s Student Senior         

                                         Portfolio.

 

 

  Thursday, 12/06/07     - Kaplan Mock SAT/ACT testing Review night - This is the review night for parents and students who

                                         chose to participate in the November 10th PTSO sponsored Mock SAT/ACT testing.  A representative from

                                         the Kaplan company will be present to go over the test questions so both parents and students are aware of

                                         the Student’s possible SAT/ACT scores.  The opportunity to enroll in a Kaplan SAT/ACT Review class

                                         will also be available – but is not a requirement to participate.  More information about the Mock  Testing

                                         will be available starting in August.         

                 

                       

  Thursday, 01/03/08     - NPHS Student and Parent Course Selection Information Night - Information for all grade levels on the

                                         “how to’s”  of course selection for the following school year will be presented by our NPHS Guidance

                                         dept. staff.  Information will also be presented for the parents and students who are currently in 9th  grade

                                         about the transition to the tenth  following the course selection information. 

 

 

   Thursday, 2/07/08      - NPHS AP Night - AP programs planned for 2008-2009 school year will be presented complete with                                                       

                                         student testimonials from this year’s NPHS AP classes.   Department Chairs and current AP Teachers  

                                            will also be on hand to answer your questions.

 

 

   Thursday, 3/06/08      - NPHS Second  Annual Financial Aid Night - Everything you ever wanted to know about getting

                                         financial aid for your college bound student.  Presented by Sonia Wagner, Executive Director of

                                         the College of Southern MD – College Access Network.  The information presented will be

                                         tailored to NPHS students and will include information useful for any two or four year college.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  Thursday, 4/03/08       - 11th and  12th grade transition night and PTSO Officer Nominations - Students and parents of current 10th

            and eleventh graders are invited to come out and participate in a presentation by our NPHS Guidance dept  

            about what to expect during the junior and  senior year of high school.  Timeframes, deadlines, special

            events, and educational requirements will be among the topics presented.

 

   Thursday, 5/01/08     - Year in Review and PTSO Elections - Come out and express your concerns over the past year,

                                         share topic suggestions for next years PTSO, and get a sneak peak at the End of the Year Activities.                                     

                                         -- NPHS-PTSO -- Elections of Officers for the 2007-2008 school year.  If possible, an additional guest

                                         speaker from one of the local colleges/Universities will be on hand to discuss the college application

                                         process.  More information to come. 

 

   Thursday, 6/05/08     - Executive Board Meeting - Installation of PTSO Officers, planning session for 08-09 school year.

 

 

 

 2007-2008 North Point PTSO Goals: 

We plan to: 

  • Be a parent, student and teacher resource offering educational and informative meetings to facilitate a successful High School experience for all of NPHS’s students.
  • Offer information on college and career preparedness to ease our student’s transition into college and/or their chosen careers.  
  • Raise funds to help purchase needed items that support our goals
  • Facilitate better communication between the parents and the administration. 
  •  Leave no Parent, Teacher or Student Behind.

We're ready for next year and are excited for you to join us!  This is our school and together we are going to help make it a great place for our children to be educated and grow into successful adults.
