Guidance has entered the Health classes in the month of January to review conflict resolution skills with each grade level. Through these workshops we are able to offer students specific tools for handling conflict and alternatives to verbal and physical fighting. Each student has received a workbook reinforcing the concepts learned in the workshop. Please review this workbook with your student. If you are interested in receiving more information regarding conflict resolution and how to reinforce these strategies in the home please call your child’s school counselor.

The counselors will be entering the Health classes again at the end of the month to discuss suicide, stress management, and living a healthy lifestyle.

8th grade students are preparing for their transition to high school. They have taken a class on College Knowledge to review high school requirements and high school assessments. In addition, they have researched careers of interest on the bridges explorers program, which can be accessed at www.bridges.com. In the month of April, McDonough and La Plata High school will come to Piccowaxen to visit with the 8th grade students to instruct on the course selection process. Information will be sent home closer to that time.

As the semester comes to a close, please be vigilant in checking you student’s agenda book to ensure that all assignments are being completed and turned in.

Thank you for your continued support,
The Guidance Department
