The Board of Education presented four resolutions to students and staff at their Jan. 14 meeting. The resolutions are presented to the Board annually. The following resolutions were presented: African-American History Month; Career and Technology Education Month; Gifted and Talented Education Month; and National School Counseling Week. Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) students are getting into computer coding, and it is not just in a computer science class. A new partnership with Code.org is helping CCPS infuse computer science and coding in math, science and computer classes for all students, from kindergarteners to high school seniors. The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and the Maryland Advisory Council on Gifted and Talented Education recently honored two Charles County Public Schools educators – T. C. Martin Elementary School Principal Greg Miller and Aparna Joshi, a gifted education resource teacher at Milton M. Somers Middle School – for their efforts in gifted education. La Plata High School is hosting its 22nd annual antique show and sale on Saturday, Feb. 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 9, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 and refreshments will be available. Charles County Public Schools has rescheduled the upcoming report card issue date from Friday, Jan. 31 to Monday, Feb. 3. The end of the second marking period was also moved from Thursday, Jan. 23 to Friday, Jan. 24. Both changes were made to accommodate instructional and grading time lost due to inclement weather closings this week. Elementary school report cards will be issued to students at school on Feb. 3; report cards for middle and high school students will be mailed Feb. 3. Seven Charles County Public Schools students were recently selected for state recognition for their accomplishments in gifted education by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and the Maryland State Advisory Council on Gifted and Talented Education.
