Survival Camp

at
Nanjemoy Creek Environmental Education Center
For Students Entering Grades 6 through 8

June 18 to June 22, 2018

Camp Information

The Nanjemoy Creek Survival Camp is designed for campers entering sixth through eighth grade in the 2018–2019 school year who are interested in participating in exciting and challenging outdoor activities centered around surviving in the wild.  A few of the activities are shelter building, canoeing, fire making and tracking.  The camp is designed to promote environmental stewardship by teaching campers how to observe, understand, enjoy, and respect nature.

The camp runs Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM the week of June 18, 2018. Bus transportation is provided from the Gwynn Center, 5998 Radio Station Rd., La Plata, MD. The bus leaves the Gwynn Center at 8:15 AM and returns at 3:45 PM.  Parents may transport their child directly to and from NCEEC each day (please notify camp counselor).

Enrollment is limited to 20 students on a first come, first served basis. The cost is $195 through your My School Bucks account.  Students should bring a lunch and beverage each day and dress for outdoor activities.

Camp Information

The Nanjemoy Creek Explorers Camp is designed for campers entering sixth through eighth grade in the 2018–2019 school year who are interested in participating in exciting and challenging outdoor activities. Campers participate in initiative and confidence activities which are designed to promote teamwork, creative problem solving, and self-confidence. Campers have the opportunity to develop skills in canoeing, birdwatching, fishing, and nature crafts.  Once they have mastered basic canoeing skills, they will have a chance to canoe on Nanjemoy Creek. The camp is designed to promote environmental stewardship by teaching campers how to observe, understand, enjoy, and respect nature.

Birdwatching Camp

For Students Entering Grades 5 through 12

August 13 to August 17, 2018

Camp Information

The Nanjemoy Creek Birdwatchers Camp is designed for campers entering fifth through twelfth grade in the 2018–2019 school year who are interested in participating in birdwatching activities which will include bird ID, binocular use, birding by ear, habitat study, learning how to be citizen scientists with eBird and iNaturalist and mentoring with the Southern Maryland Audubon Society.  Students in this camp can bring smart phones daily for use with birding apps and to record data. The camp is designed to promote environmental stewardship by teaching campers how to observe, understand, enjoy, and respect nature.

The camp runs Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM the week of August 13, 2018. Bus transportation is provided from the Gwynn Center, 5998 Radio Station Rd., La Plata, MD.
