Home Instruction

****NEW**** The Home Schooling office has a new phone number (301)934-7438. Home Schooling notification forms can be faxed to (301)934-0165 or mailed to the Robert D. Stethem Educational Center, Attn: Home Schooling.

The Home Schooling office is closed during the summer.  This school year it will close on June 20, 2018 and reopen for the 2018-19 school year on August 15, 2018.  If you think you may need any forms completed from the home schooling office, please remember to bring them in before June 20th when the home schooling office closes for the summer.  Families that send in notification forms during the summer will receive their verification form after the office re-opens in August. Families wishing to enroll in Charles County Public Schools from homeschooling may gather all paperwork required to regsiter so that when the Home Schooling office re-opens the only documentation needed to register is the Home Schooling withdrawal form.

The Charles County Public Schools supports homeschooling in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.10.01. The purpose of these regulations is to establish a procedure to be used to determine of a child participating in a home instruction program is receiving regular, thorough instruction during the school year in the studies usually taught in the public schools to children of the same age.

Parents/Guardians who choose to teach a child at home must submit a Home Instruction Notification Form to the address below at least 15 days before beginning a home schooling program. Each year thereafter, a parent/guardian needs to verify the continuation of home schooling and notify the Home Schooling Office or the supervisory nonpublic institution if there is a change in home schooling status during the school year.
