Solar Eclipse 2017

Monday, August 21, 2017

1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Join us in the parking lot to safely view the upcoming rare solar eclipse. While Southern Maryland is not in the total eclipse zone (near Charleston, SC for the east coast), most of the sun will still be eclipsed for our region. We’ll have several telescopes out to project the sun onto the ground (for safe viewing). If you don’t already have your own solar eclipse glasses, we’ll have those available for only $1. So, bring a chair, enjoy the yummy pastries, iced coffee drinks (including solar eclipse specials), and ice cream, and watch this spectacular out of this world event!

Important Information

The partial eclipse in our area will begin around 1:18 p.m. The maximum eclipse will be around 2:43 p.m., with the eclipse ending around 4:02 p.m.

DO NOT look directly at the sun at any point during the eclipse.

CLICK HERE to learn more about solar eclipse safety and safe ways to view the eclipse. We’ll have some of these methods set up at the science center.

Protect yourself from the sun and heat, as we will be outside for quite some time (sunscreen, hats, water, etc.)
