Dual Enrollment Checklist

Have you applied to the College of Southern Maryland (CSM)?
Complete the online application for admission to CSM. Be sure to indicate on the application that you are seeking admission into the Dual Enrollment program. Students are strongly encouraged to apply several weeks prior to the enrollment deadline to allow ample time to complete all steps.

Have you completed the Dual Enrollment forms?
Students should meet with their high school counselor to ensure they are eligible to participate in the program and to review graduation requirements.

The CCPS Dual Enrollment Application must be completed prior to the CSM form.
The CSM Dual Enrollment Form should be completed by the high school counselor and signed by the counselor, principal, student and parent.

Have you taken the placement test?

Option 1: Schedule a placement test at a CSM Testing Center:

La Plata Campus – (301)934-7657

Note: It is the responsibility of the student to schedule the placement test and students must bring a photo ID to the Testing Center on their test date.
Students must place at college level in English and Reading in order to be admitted into the Dual Enrollment program. The placement test can only be taken once while students are still in high school.

CSM results for acceptance into the Dual Enrollment program:

Reading: minimum score of 79
Sentence Structure: minimum score of 75

Option 2: Submit acceptable SAT/ACT Scores

SAT: 550 or above in each area Critical Reading will waive the placement test.
ACT: 21 or above in English, Reading will waive the placement test.
Composite scores are not considered.

If a student would like to take a math course or a course that requires math as a prerequisite, they must take the math portion of the CSM placement test and place at the college level. Students with SAT math scores of 550 or above and/or ACT math scores of 21 or above may still need to take the math portion of the CSM placement test in order to place in a higher level math course.

Have you received an acceptance letter from CSM?
Students who have applied, submitted the enrollment form and demonstrated acceptable college level placement will receive and acceptance letter in to the program by mail.

Have you attended a registration session?
In this session, students will meet with an Enrollment Advisor, register for classes and make payment. Appointments are required and all documentation must be received in order to attend.  Please note that Dual Enrollment students are not eligible to register on their own and will need the assistance of an Enrollment Advisor.
