Operations of the Guidance Department:

Registrations:

Please visit the link below to find all mandatory items needed for registration

http://www2.ccboe.com/register/register.cfm

Contact Mrs. Martin, the guidance secretary, to schedule an appointment with the appropriate guidance counselor to register your child.  Parents must also complete a registration packet in order to register their child.  These packets must be completed and provided at the time of registration.  Parents may pick up registration packets at any time during the school day.

Withdrawals:

Parents must complete the necessary withdrawal paperwork in order to withdraw their child.  Only a legal guardian may withdraw a student.  Students must be cleared by the librarian and have no overdue books or outstanding fines.  All textbooks must be returned to the child’s teachers.  If books aren't returned, then the parent/guardian must pay for the book.  Please contact the Guidance Secretary, Mrs. Martin to obtain necessary withdrawal paperwork and information.

Effective Communication between parents/teachers:

Our staff makes every effort to communicate routinely with parents via telephone calls, e-mails, and interim progress reports.  To obtain a staff directory, log on to http://www.ccboe.com/stoddert/staffpage.htm and feel free to e-mail your child’s teachers.

Classroom Observations:

Parents/guardians may either visit the classroom at the teacher’s/school’s invitation or request to make a formal observation of a classroom. Making an appointment with the school at least two (2) days in advance of an observation is not only a courtesy and a requirement, but enables you to schedule the observation for the maximum benefit. Teachers cannot stop teaching to confer with a parent/guardian who stops by without an appointment. Parents/guardians may schedule up to two (2) classroom observations of forty-five (45) minutes in duration each grading period. Staff will accompany visitors to the classroom. Siblings should not attend. Teachers will be happy to discuss the observation at a mutually convenient time. Parents are welcome to visit the cafeteria and eat lunch with their child.

Parent/Teacher Conferences:

Parents/guardians wishing to meet with only 1 teacher may schedule this directly with the teacher or simply call or e-mail the teacher.  If a parent desires to meet with more than 1 teacher, please call the appropriate guidance counselor to schedule a conference.  Parent/ teacher conferences will take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays either before school from 8:00am-8:15am or after school from 3:05pm-3:30pm.  Please sign-in with the front office secretary and obtain a visitor’s pass before your conference.

Home/Classwork Requests:

It is the responsibility of the student to request missing homework or classwork directly from their teachers if they missed less than 3 days of school.   If a student is absent for more than 3 consecutive days, you may call the guidance department and Mrs. Martin will handle home/classwork requests. Guidance must give teachers a minimum of 1 day notice to prepare and provide work for parents/guardians to pick up.

Please pick up all homework packets requested in Guidance office with Mrs. Martin. If students/parents fail to pick up requested assignments we will hold the packet for 24 hours and then return the work to his/her teachers.

*A note for 8th graders:

To plan for the completion of middle school, 8th grade students will be asked to provide 2 current proofs of residency before the end of the year. Please keep in mind these documents are necessary to plan for their high school scheduling and transition. Every student transitioning to a new school within Charles County Public Schools is required to provide residential verification.
