This course is designed to help students prepare for entry-level IT career opportunities and the Comp TIA A+ Certification exam. Students will learn about network administration and basic computer repair, solve hardware and software problems, and explore a variety of operating systems and computing devices. The course uses hands-on labs and online lessons developed by the Cisco Networking Academy to develop skills in PC principles and operations, hardware and software installation and configuration, troubleshooting, network technologies, and customer service.
Students will also serve as computer interns, working as technicians and information systems specialists for their high school. Students will solve hardware and software problems throughout the school. Independent work and exploration, under the guidance of their instructor, will be a major part of this course. Special computer-related privileges come with this advanced learning opportunity. Students may be given additional rights to their school's local area network during times of increased need. With the additional rights and privileges come added expectations of responsibility, especially the expectation that no intern will abuse or misuse this privilege.
