Summer Enrichment Camps

Summer Enrichment Camps are for Charles County Public School enrolled students and residents of Charles County in grades kindergarten through nine, according to the student's 2017 - 2018 school year grade level.

Camps are offered in the AM (8:30 to 11:30) and PM (12:30 to 3:30).  Students staying for AM and PM camp sessions can be enrolled in the Lunch Activity Time session (11:30 AM to 12:30 PM) for $10/wk.  The Lunch Activity Time Session includes free lunch and supervision between camps.

Cost per camp session is $90.00 per week and financial assistance is available for students who qualify. Contact Rebecca LaRoque at 301-934-7369 or rlaroque@ccboe.com.  Some camps require an extra fee to cover the cost of materials.

Space is limited for each camp.  Camps that have low enrollment may be cancelled with a refund. Camp schedule is subject to change. Please check this webpage for updates.

Notification must be made 2 weeks prior to the start of camp for a full refund.  $5 non-refundable, processing fee for all cancellations.

Camps for first through ninth grade will be offered at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School, 2040 St. Thomas Drive, Waldorf, MD.

Camps for Kindergarten will be held at Mary B. Neal Elementary School*, 12105 St. Georges Drive, Waldorf, MD.

The International Cooking & Baking Camp and the Summer Chef Academy for grades six through eight will be held at Westlake High School**, 3300 Middletown Road, Waldorf, MD.

Get ready for Kindergarten as you practice reading and math focused on a different theme every day. You will work with peers to practice identifying and using letters, exploring math games, and enjoying literature centered around the daily theme.

Travel around the world as you dance, create, and explore different continents, countries, and states. Have fun with engaging activities while learning important social studies concepts.

Stay active and improve fitness over the summer with games and activities. You will be introduced to cooperative activities, sports/modified games, and engaging exercises to promote an active and healthy lifestyle.

Under the Sea
Beat the heat this summer and come in for our Under the Sea Week. You will be moving, creating, and having fun while exploring the sea. You will spend the day fishing for fun through storytelling, arts and crafts, science experiments, and friendly competitions.

Hola. Spend a week immersed in the Spanish language and culture. Learn to say simple words and phrases while spending time each day learning about a different Spanish speaking country.

Wild About Science
Each day we will look at different “wild” science topics such as dinosaurs, insects, habitats, and camouflage. We will learn through observations and experiments using the scientific method. Have fun with math, art, song, and physical movement to name a few.

Want to spend your summer in the jungle? Come join your animal friends on a safari adventure and explore new math concepts through hands-on activities. Experience new reading strategies using song and dance and learn new writing skills in fun interactive ways!

Computer Science: Never Too Young
Build your confidence with computers in a fun and interactive environment. Learn the basics of computer language, coding, and programming. Come out and explore the limitless world of computing.

  Cooking Around the World
Each day explore a different country. Learn about traditional customs, songs, games, and art of each country. Help prepare a food item from each country and use the recipes to create a cookbook.

Maryland, My Maryland
Have fun learning about all the wonderful geographic features and historical figures from the great state of Maryland and Charles County. End each day with a craft and/or snack that is symbolic.
3 - 5   Ukulele Garage Band
Master the basics of playing the ukulele and making music using Apple’s Garage Band app. Knowing just four simple chords, you can learn to play more than forty popular songs. Ukuleles will be provided.

Lights, Camera, Action
Create a short movie to take home utilizing the basic skills of recording and editing videos. Learn how to insert special effects to make your movie more exciting. At the end of the camp session, you will present your videos to your classmates.
6 - 8   Intro to Biomedical Sciences
Want to learn more about the Biomedical Science field? This camp will provide hands-on activities to provide you with skills, knowledge, and career planning pertaining to the field of biomedical sciences. Be introduced to the foundational knowledge taught in the CCPS Project Lead The Way Biomedical Science track.

Coding in Alice
Create animated movies and simple video games while learning the fundamental programming steps of ALICE. This innovative 3-D programming environment will let you manipulate people, animals, and vehicles in a virtual world.

  Math Meets Art
Create interesting and colorful artwork using mathematical ideas such as tessellations, polyhedrons, fractals, Pythagorean Theorem, golden ratio, and the Fibonacci sequence. Explore these themes in a scientific and historical context.

Grace in Motion: Summer Dance Academy
Express yourself creatively through dance while gaining skills and techniques to perform dance routines. Work together to master choreography that will be presented at the end of the session.

Lights, camera, action! Get ready to be a star! This camp is for you if you like to act and perform on stage. You will perform theatrical pieces and be introduced to techniques and terminology of the theater while preparing for a presentation at the end of the week.

Intro to Biomedical Sciences
Welcome to the world of Biomedical Science. This camp is designed for you to be introduced to software, lab equipment, terminology, and foundational knowledge taught in the CCPS PLTW Biomedical Science track. This is a hands-on, lab-based camp designed for interested scientists.

We want to stir up a batch of eager learners to enter Kindergarten with listening, math, and literacy skills. You will follow a daily routine of literacy enriched activities as well as mathematical thinking in order to create a tasty treat.

If you love nature and animals, this is the camp for you. We will create bird feeders, a sprout house, and even plant your own vegetables using an ice cream cone as a pot. Be ready to bring the outdoors into the indoors with various crafts and experiments.

Whether you are a beginner or intermediate chess player, you are welcome to come and learn openings and strategies to advance your chess game. Improve your memory and critical thinking skills while having FUN playing chess.

Board Game Designer
Put imagination to the test designing a board game for family and friends. From Chinese Checkers to Monopoly to Settlers of Catan, board games are a part of everyday life. Have fun while you design the prototype for a board game of your own including the rules, pieces, dice, and boards!

Do you babysit? Do you help out with your siblings at home? Want to learn basic lifesaving and first aid skills? Learn all of this from a National Registry Emergency Medical Technician and CPR/First Aid instructor. Skills such as CPR and other first aid and safety applications will be explored.

Nanjemoy Creek Adventure Camp

at Nanjemoy Creek Environmental Education Center
for CCPS students entering grades 6 through 8 in the 2017–2018 school year

 June 19, 2017 - June 23, 2017

The Nanjemoy Creek Adventure Camp is designed for students entering sixth through eighth grade, who are interested in participating in exciting and challenging outdoor activities. Campers participate in initiative and confidence activities which are designed to promote teamwork, creative problem solving, and self-confidence. Campers have the opportunity to develop skills in canoeing, bird watching, fishing, and astronomy. Once they have mastered basic canoeing skills, they will have a chance to canoe on Nanjemoy Creek. The camp is designed to promote environmental stewardship by teaching campers how to observe, understand, enjoy, and respect nature.

The camp runs Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM the week of June 19, 2017.  Bus transportation is provided from the Gwynn Center, 5998 Radio Station Rd., La Plata, MD.  The bus leaves the Gwynn Center at 8:15 AM and returns at 3:45 PM. Parents may transport their child directly to and from The Nanjemoy Creek Center each day (please notify camp counselor).

Enrollment is limited to 20 students on a first come, first served basis. The cost is $185 through PayPal.  Students should bring a lunch and beverage each day and dress for outdoor activities.  Friday evening there is an astronomy viewing that is open to all campers and their families.

Lackey Summer Youth Camp

at Henry E. Lackey High School
for children entering 2nd grade in 2017-2018 school year - 13 year olds

June 19 - July 14  Monday - Friday  (Camp closed on July 4)

The Summer Youth Camp for boys and girls provides supervised activities in the following areas: soccer, touch football, basketball, floor hockey, swimming, kickball, arts and crafts, whiffle ball and other games.

Early Bird Registration:  $225 per week

Weekly Sessions: $245 per week

$40 one-time non-refundable registration fee per student per summer

Before care $10 per day- begins at 7 AM

Camp includes sessions at the St. Charles High School indoor pool and alternative activities for non-swimmers

Students bring a lunch and swimmers bring a towel and swim suit.

  • Snacks & water provided

  • Combined classes for grades 4/5

  • Combined classes for grades 6/7

  • Seperate class for grade 8

  • Certified classroom teachers lead the camps
