Other Lesson Ideas: (If you have any lesson ideas please submit
them in the discussion area)
-- Differentiations between
the number of males of various races and backgrounds being incarcerated;
researching the types of crimes (drug-related, assault, robbery) and the
saturation of certain neightborhoods; the availability of positive resources
(Big Brother programs, YMCA, afterschool programs, church sponsored programs,
social service agencies, etc.
-- Comparing the cost of buying cigarettes with using the money to invest in
the stock market. Students can learn about investments.
-- Comparing the number of homicides that have occurred this year in a given
area with the number this same time last year. Discussions and real-life
solutions to what can be done (aside from the usual solution of hiring more
police, who some, in my opinion make more in overtime doing nothing, than some
average grandmothers who sit on their porches in inner cities across the U.S.).
-- Researching the effects of Neighborhood Watch program son neighborhoods.
-- Researching education and the graduation rates, testing averages and costs
associates with attending private vs. public schools (including religious,
charter and homeschooling)
