Spelling Words
Each
week students will have spelling words to study as well as spelling
homework. Below you will find the spelling words for each quarter. Depending
on weather and unexpected events the order of these words may change and
changes will be notified in class.

Spelling Strategies to Use at Home:
Look at the word
* What are the letters in the word?
* What does the word mean?
* Does the word have more than one meaning?
Say the word
* What are the Consonant sounds?
* What are the vowel sounds?
Think about the word
* How is each sound spelled?
* Do you see any familiar spelling patterns?
* Do you see any suffixes, prefixes, or other word parts?
Write the word
*Think about the sounds and the letters.
*Form the letters correctly.
Check the spelling of the word
*Does it match the spelling on your word list?
*Do you need to write the word again?
Spelling Tips for Weekly Tests
1. Before the test practice the words with a
friend or family member.
2. At test time, get a clean sheet of paper and a pencil.
3. Pay attention as your teacher reads a word and uses it in a
sentence. Write only after listening to the whole sentence.
4. Write the word. Carefully form each letter so it is easy to
read.
5. Write the correct spelling of each word you misspelled when you get
your paper back.
