Fourth Grade
Music
Note:
Fourth grade students are expected to bring a folder with clips and paper and a
pencil to music class every time!
In fourth grade
music classes we have to learn our music concepts and symbols so that we can
play our recorders second semester!
· We will practice
all our solfege syllables in the fall, starting by
singing “Do, Re, Mi!”
· We will then
learn to name the pitches on the staff, we need lots
of practice with this!
· We will practice
with reading and clapping/playing different rhythms from notation.
· We will learn
about opera this year, which is also music theatre.
· We will study
Rossini, Tchaikovsky and Bach, hopefully even Handel
and Beethoven this year.
· We will be
presenting T. C. Martin’s Winter Program, “Holiday Wishes”.
· Second semester
we will get our recorders and learn to play songs together on them!
· We will continue
to review orchestra instruments and their sounds so that we know something
about them when we have to decide whether we want to study one in fifth grade!
Your child will
be expected to keep up with his/her classwork and to
make up work missed when absent. Please
help your child with this responsibility, it is really
good preparation for future school work.
