 Third Grade Music

In third grade music classes, we really get into reading and making music.  We try more improvising and creating music.

·       We read music symbols from the staff in order to perform songs and rhythm band pieces.

·       We spend some time learning about music from the regions of Africa and Asia.

·       We will be listening to music of Mozart, Greig, Bach, and Tchiakovsky as we learn more about western instruments and composition forms.

·       We will be getting really good at singing harmony in class in groups.

·       We will continue to learn songs from/about different traditions and we love songs from the spiritual/gospel/jazz traditions.

·       We will be reviewing and using solfege syllables for singing, we will know Do, Mi, Sol, La and high Do.

·       We will learn about music personalities, including Louis Armstrong and Julie Andrews.

·       We will be learning about music theatre—and we hope to be able to view “The Sound of Music” in the spring.

·       We hope to be able to use our “Groovy Music” software, provided by  the county, and if we like it we will try to get more copies.  With this software we can learn about note values, dynamics and instruments, and create and save compositions!

See our terrific third graders performing this year’s winter program, December Nights, December Lights!

What a great job they did!
