Welcome Letter

Dear Parents, Welcome to another school year at William B. Wade Elementary School. This should be a very exciting and busy year for your fifth grader. I want your child to enjoy coming to school each and every day. I want to make your child’s classroom environment a pleasant one, filled with rich experiences, challenging projects, loads of achievements and lasting friendships. In order to accomplish this task, I feel it is particularly important to develop and maintain a year of involvement with you. You will be the first to know whether your child needs special attention in a specific subject and if your child is excelling academically and behaviorally. I encourage you to check out the class website at http://www.ccboe.com/teachers/klednum. The class website has lots of information about my classroom, projects that we are working on, valuable resources, and student work. Be sure to check back regularly. Spelling and Math homework are assigned every night except Fridays and holidays. Other subjects will be assigned as needed. Students will be writing their homework down daily in their agenda books. He/She will be responsible for writing down their homework and bringing the needed supplies home with them every day. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. Rules and Consequences

I have a behavior chart in the classroom. Each child's name is on the chart. If he or she breaks one or more of the rules then they flip their card to yellow or red depending on the number of rules broken or the severity of the action. Children that go for a whole week without a number earn special privileges or prizes.

1st offense - Warning

2nd offense- Lose part or all of recess

3rd offense- Call/Note home or "Time In"

4th offense- Office referral

Further discipline action will be taken if problems continue after parents are notified.

Other Policies

Absences - If your child becomes ill, please keep him/her home from school. When your child returns to school, I will have their assignments in the green manila folders in front of my desk according to the day of the week they missed.
Behavior - I will be monitoring behavior using a system that corresponds to the Rules and Consequences. Each time a rule is broken, the student will flip their card to the next color. I will know by the end of the day just by looking at what color is showing by their name how many rules were broken during the day. If a problem occurs, a yellow progress report will go home in the student's Tuesday folder indicated the rule broken. Please sign this sheet and return it to school.
Good Behavior - Students can earn "I Care Coupons", Homework Passes, and prizes from my prize box for continued good behavior.
Birthdays - I have no problem with sending treats in for students' birthdays. We will take 10 minutes or so to celebrate the birthday during the school day. Just let me know a day or 2 in advance, and that will be great!
Book Orders - We will be doing book orders from Scholastic once per month. I will give orders out on a Tuesday and orders will be due on or before Friday of the next week. I can then take time over the weekend to add up the money and call to place the order. Please make sure you put your child's name on the order form, and return it to me with your money in a SEALED envelope with your child's name on it. Please make checks payable to either Scholastic.
