She is the Instructional Assistant in our
classroom. This is her fourth year
working at Indian Head Elementary. She’s
tried other jobs, but realized she really wanted to work with children! She loves working in Kindergarten! Her favorite activities are singing,
gardening, and reading. Her favorite
color is green (sometimes blue). She has
six super-grandchildren, a dog (Dida), and 3 cats
(Fats, Skinny, and Girl)! Ms. Boyd’s
favorite food is watermelon and carrot cake.
Her favorite way to start the day is with a cup of coffee and then it’s
off to work!
Every day we pick a new Star of the Day, a
student who is our special helper for the day!
They help with Calendar activities, passing out snacks, and act as Line
Leader for the day. We depend on the
Star of the Day to be a role model for good behavior!
Kindergarten attends each Special for 30
minutes. Please note the days we have
P.E. so your child can wear appropriate shoes and clothing for the activities.
Monday – P.E.
Tuesday – Computer
Wednesday – Library
Thursday – Art
Friday - Music
Snack is provided every day by our
wonderful cafeteria staff! Everyday we
are served veggies or fruits. If you
prefer, you may pack a healthy snack for your child everyday. Fridays, however, are our Kindergarten
Cooking Days and we will be creating a tasty snack together!
We encourage each child to have a change of
clothes to leave at school for an "emergency" supply. Please include a t-shirt, shorts, underwear,
and socks. Please consider keeping your
child's close up to date with the changing seasons.
The students will go outside for recess
every day provided the weather is acceptable.
On rainy days or during weather below 32 degrees we will have indoor
recess. Please make sure your child is
prepared for the weather. Hats, warm
coats, and gloves are all necessities during the winter season!
Full-Day Kindergarten is a long stretch of
time for a young child. To help keep
them going, we give students a chance in the afternoon to rest and recharge so
they can make it through the day. Each
student will need a towel or blanket for Quiet Time. We will use them until Christmas break, when
they will be sent home. When we return
to school in January, Quiet Rest Time will be utilized as a “Quiet Writing
and/or Reading Time” where begin creative writing activities in our
journals. This time can still be spent
as a rest period if a child would still benefit from it. If this is case, please send the blanket back
to school.
Blue
Folders (also known as Thursday Folders) – These are very important to our classroom routine and help
teach our students about responsibility.
The folders are our way of sending important documents, weekly homework
assignments and newsletters, and class activities home for your viewing. They also contain your child’s Behavior
Calendar (for more, see Behavior Chart below) which we use to communicate how
your child performed that day. Please
keep this calendar inside their folder all month, reviewing and signing
nightly. On Thursdays, many important
documents may be sent home. Please make
sure these items are looked over and the folder cleaned out.
Agenda
Books – We will begin
using these shortly after our return to school in January. Students will write in their homework
assignments each night and return the books the next day. This can also serve as another form of
communication between teacher and parents by writing little notes in the side
margins. If you have a need to write to
me, please do so. This should not be
used, however, for writing Absentee notes.
Our school uses a behavior system called
"How is Your Day?" - a 5-color card system which represents a child's behavior
each day. Students begin the day on a Green card.
By following our school rules (following directions, raising hand,
keeping hands to him/herself, respect others, etc.), a child will move to the
higher colors through the course of the day.
From Green you go to
On Fridays, our class celebrates good
classroom behavior by bringing out the Treasure Barrel. If a student earns gold stars every day or
all gold and one white, he or she may pick an item as a reward for being a good
role model!
We want you in our classroom and helping
out – and there are many ways you can help!
Whether your talent is reading a book to the class, making copies,
setting up for parties, cutting out things to prepare for activities (to name
only a few); we can utilize those resources to improve our learning
environment. If you are interested in
becoming part of our team, please contact me and we will find out how you can
best serve our class. I truly appreciate
all the time, energy, and resources that are donated to this class!
It takes a lot to keep our classroom
running smoothly and at times we find ourselves short of supplies. If you are able to help out by donating
supplies, it would be greatly appreciated.
As of right now some of our biggest needs are the following items:
«
Glue
Sticks – they go quickly and we can NEVER have too many!
«
Stickers
– we love stickers!
«
Old
Children’s pants (size 7+) for emergency use
