Hello and welcome to 7th grade social
studies! The following information
covers units taught throughout the year, supplies needed and general class
requirements and policies. Please review
this information with your child and sign the attached sheet. I look forward to a successful and productive
year!

Each
student will be required to bring the following supplies to class

pencils

marble composition notebook (no spiral notebooks)
q A
binder with three sections: one for vocabulary, one for class work and one for
homework (You may use one large binder for several classes as long as there is
a three part social studies section)
q Notebook
paper
q An
assignment book, which is purchased at the school store for $5.00
q A
blue or black felt tip pen
q Colored
pencils (at least 5 different colors)
Class
Requirements
¨ Students
must follow all class rules.
¨ Students
must maintain a composition book of daily warm up activities. Weekly warm up quizzes will be given.
¨ Students
must maintain an organized notebook composed of a table of contents,
vocabulary, class work and homework sections.
¨ Students
must record all class work and homework assignments in a table of contents. All
home work assignments must be written in an assignment book, which is taken
home daily. Homework is typically given
three times per week.
¨ Each
student is required to take a CCPS Social Studies final that counts for 10% of
the student's final grade.
Late
Work Policy
Late work is accepted up to one week late. After
one week, late work IS NOT accepted. (NO exceptions!!)
Make
Up Work
Work may only be made up if a student's absence is
excused. Copies of homework and class
work assignments are posted on the wall the day they are assigned. It is the student's responsibility to
retrieve these copies and turn in completed work within one week.

Grading Policy: The grading policy will operate within the
rules of the Secondary Grading Procedure adopted by the Charles County Board of
Education.
Grading Scale
100%
- 90% = A
89% - 80%
= B
79% - 70%
= C
69% - 60%
= D
59% - 0%
= F
The
weighted percent for the Social Studies Department will be as follows:
Class
work: 40%
(This
will include but is not limited to the following: warm-ups, worksheets, reading
activities, participation, notebooks and shared inquiry.)
Homework: 10%
Projects: 25%
This
will include National History Day for Enrichment students.
Quizzes/Tests: 25%
Total: 100%
