Reading
is so important! Here are the ways we
are learning to read at school:
· We read using whole class
“shared reading” activities. These activities
allow me to introduce reading strategies to the whole class at the same
time. It is also a good time to utilize
“cooperative learning” strategies, allowing children to work in small groups to
help one another.
· We read in “guided reading
groups.” During “guided reading groups”
children have the opportunity to meet with children who are working at or about
the same level as they are. This allows
me to zone in on strategies that would be most helpful to each particular
group.
· We use reading strategies at
independent centers. When it is your
child’s day to attend an independent center, they may be practicing various
reading strategies through the use of computer software, the listening center
and/or the wordwall.
· We practice reading
strategies at home through homework and reading assignments.
Most of you probably have an
“at home” library started for your child.
But since their reading levels are hopefully always changing, here are
some great places to find great deals on new books:
{ Home } { All About Me } { Latest First Grade
News } { Cafeteria}
{ T.C. Martin Homepage } { Reading }
