A lifelong resident of the greater Metropolitan
area, I graduated from Surrattsville High
School many years ago.
I earned an Associate’s Degree in Elementary Education from
Prince George’s Community College.

My Bachelor’s Degree was from the University of Maryland
at College Park.
After receiving my degree, I was hired as a first grade
teacher at Middleton Valley Academy, a public school in Camp
Springs, MD in P.G. County.
As a “magnet school” meant to draw
students from a larger geographic area, the children were
required to wear uniforms each day. Upper grade children
were also given instruction in Latin. I taught at Middleton Valley
for 9 years from 1987 - 1996.

In the fall of 1996, I transferred to a first grade position at
James Ryder Randall E.S. in Clinton, MD. James Ryder Randall
is a regular education school with a large special education
wing.
There I enjoyed the opportunity to team teach with special
education teachers for the social studies and science
blocks.
The mixing of these two popuations of children (regular ed.
and special ed.) was extremely fulfilling for teachers and
students alike! Despite
a move with my family to southern Charles
County in 1999, I remained at JRR for two more years before
the driving took it’s toll on me, and I applied for a position
closer to home.
In the spring of 2000, I was lucky enough to get the call to
interview with Mr. Morrow at T.C. Martin E.S. By the end
of the week, I had accepted the first grade position and had
resigned from P.G. County schools. I have been told numerous
times in my 3 years at T.C. Martin
just how lucky I was to
have landed so softly! I am truly glad to be here!
On a personal note, I have been married since 1987 to
Thor. We have two beautiful
children, Andrea is 13 and
is in her last year at Piccowaxen. Stefan is 11 and in his
first year at Piccowaxen.
The whole family is very into sports, with all four of us
playing for softball and baseball teams.

I am also an avid reader and love my cats to pieces
(the kids hear about them
a lot)!
