Well it’s hard to believe that that school year is over and summer vacations is here!  We had an awesome year in the Media Center! Our Scholastic Book Fair & Usborne Fair were a real success!  We would like to extend a special “Thank You” to all of the parents & students who supported our school library through volunteering, attending our Book Fairs, and sending in many wonderful donations.

       Our Accelerated Reader program continues to be a real winner with our students!  This is our 4th year with this wonderful reading program that has truly encouraged so many of our students to read a wide variety of books independently and take brief comprehensive quizzes on the computer at school.  This program is for students of all reading abilities and enables them to reach their reading goals! This school year we expanded our AR program and upgraded to AR Enterprise with will allow our students access to over 100,000 quizzes!  This really opened up the level range and enabled our students to do so much more!  Students were able to not only read books from our school library but, from home, teacher’s classroom libraries, & even the public library.  Also, when new quizzes became available we did not have to wait to buy them anymore they were added to the database immediately. This year our students passed 9,510 with an 85% average or higher!

   Parents please remember to encourage your children to read for at least 20 minutes or more at least two to four times during the week this summer!  Also, do try to attend Charles County’s Public Libraries fantastic summer reading program.  They have a wide variety of fun filled activities for students of all ages and they are FREE for the entire family.  The program begins on June 16th and runs through August 25th.
