Board approves 2026-2027 calendar modification

The Board of Education of Charles County at its April 27 work session approved a modification to the Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) 2026-2027 school calendar. The Board approved the calendar last year, which included four inclement weather make-up days noted in June 2027. The calendar modification was necessary due to a resolution passed by the Maryland State Board of Education in March requiring additional inclement weather days in the school calendar.

The calendar was modified to add two additional inclement weather make-up days in June 2027. The Board approved opening schools for two days during spring break, which allows for two additional make-up days in June 2027. CCPS is required to submit its 2026-2027 calendar to the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) by May 11.

The last day of school for students for the 2026-2027 school year is Wednesday, June 9, with the teacher’s last day set for Thursday, June 10. The six inclement weather make-up days for students are June 10, 11, 14, 15, 16 and 17.

The state resolution also requires students to be done for the school year before or by the Juneteenth holiday on June 19. In 2027, Juneteenth falls on a Saturday and is recognized as a holiday on Friday, June 18.

The updated calendar is posted on the school system website at www.ccboe.com.

In March, the state Board passed a resolution about the 2026-2027 calendar requiring school systems to include three inclement weather days if the local Board approved a virtual instruction inclement weather make-up plan, or six inclement weather make-up days if the local Board has not approved a virtual instruction inclement weather day plan. As of May 2026, CCPS does not have an approved virtual instruction inclement weather make-up plan.

MSDE requires virtual instruction during inclement weather to be synchronous – or live – instruction and students must complete a minimum of four hours.

The Board is set to discuss the topic of virtual instruction inclement weather plans at a May 6 Town Hall. The Town Hall starts at 7 p.m. and will be held on Zoom. A link to the meeting is below.
