Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is readying a slate of spring musicals that includes familiar characters and titles from Matilda to Shrek, to Means Girls and Mamma Mia.
North Point High School kicks off the season this month with “Seussical: The Musical.” Shows are 7 p.m. March 20 through 22, with a 1 p.m. matinee on March 22. The show is based on the characters of Dr. Seuss books. North Point is at 2500 Davis Road in Waldorf. Visit https://nphs7040.ludus.com/ for ticket information.
“Grease,” is the word at Westlake High School during 7 p.m. shows on March 27 through 29, with a 2 p.m. matinee on March 29. The students of Rydell High School sing their way through the growing pains and tribulations of teenage-dom. The show is not recommended for viewers younger than 13. Don’t say the name of Thomas Stone High School’s April show three times. “Beetlejuice Jr.,” will be staged 4 p.m. on April 3 and 6:30 p.m. on April 4 and 5. Lydia Deetz, mourning the passing of her mother, invokes the ghost-with-the-most who shows up to do more harm than good. Stone is at 3785 Leonardtown Road in Waldorf. St. Charles High School treks into the swamp with “Shrek: The Musical,” 7 p.m., April 4 and 5, and 2 p.m. on April 5 and 6. The show follows the reluctant adventures of an ogre hermit to save a princess and restore peace across the land. St. Charles is at 5305 Piney Church Road in Waldorf. Find your friends in the cafeteria when “Mean Girls: High School Version,” is staged at Maurice J. McDonough High School. Shows are 7 p.m., April 25 and 26, and 2 p.m., April 26 and 27. The new girl enters the world of the Plastics and learns that burn books aren’t something to be taken lightly. The show is not recommended for viewers younger than 13. “Matilda: The Musical,” will steer clear of the Chokey but deliver magical mischief at Henry E. Lackey High School at 6:30 p.m. May 1 through 3. The show tells the story of Matilda, her shallow parents, her best friend, Lavendar, and the evil headmistress of Crunchem Hall Primary. Lackey is at 3000 Chicamuxen Road in Indian Head. Tickets for the show will be available on the school’s GoFan.co account closer to the show’s run.
Here we go again at La Plata High School for “Mamma Mia,” a jukebox musical based on the hits of Abba. The show will be staged 6:30 p.m., May 1 through 3, with a 2:30 p.m. matinee May 4. Join the family as Sophie prepares to get married — but first she has to learn the identity of her father so he can walk her down the aisle. La Plata is at 6035 Radio Station Road in La Plata. Tickets will be available via Eventbrite closer to the start of the show dates.
