This fall, Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) will expand its high school athletics program by launching a girls flag football league. CCPS will launch the league with support from the National Football League (NFL) Baltimore Ravens team and Under Armour.
The league will be open to high school students in Grades 9-12 for the 2025-2026 school year. Students will play at the varsity level and compete in the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference, known as SMAC, with teams from Calvert County Public Schools. Each CCPS high school will have a girls flag football team. Students must meet CCPS eligibility requirements to participate.
CCPS is hosting two skill sessions next month for students interested in playing in the league. Interested students must register in advance and participants should arrive by 4:30 p.m. Parents of students attending must also complete a required waiver. To offer the program, CCPS partnered with the Baltimore Ravens and Under Armour to provide females with an opportunity to gain experience playing football, participate in an organized sport and foster growth of a female flag football program in Charles County. Through the Baltimore Ravens Limited Partnership, each CCPS high school receives a $5,000 grant to adopt and launch the program. Additionally, the Ravens Club provided footballs and flag belts to CCPS. Under Armour provided CCPS with 30 uniforms per high school, including one away jersey, one home jersey and shorts to match.
The schedule will consist of a 10-game season this fall to conclude with a championship game. A post season playoff format will be implemented with all counties who participate in girls flag football across Maryland. The funding and materials provided by the Baltimore Ravens and Under Armour are limited to the inaugural program year.
