Happy holidays are in the cards — Students’ artwork selected for annual card

Every year Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) students can submit an original holiday card design to be used by the superintendent for the school system’s official holiday card. A design is selected from each school level — elementary, middle and high school — to be included in the CCPS card that is sent to local elected officials, school system superintendents and others.

The works of Jocelyn Brewer, Elizabeth M. Gatewood and Ashley Wu were selected.

Brewer’s submission at the high school level depicts young children shoveling snow. She is a junior at Westlake High School and is in an Advanced Placement (AP) art class taught by Zachariah Reynolds.

Gatewood, a sixth grader at Phoenix International School of the Arts (PISOTA), submitted a design that reads “Happy Holidays” with drawings of traditional symbols of the season such as bows and gifts surrounding the wording. Her design was submitted by staff at PISOTA.

Wu’s card depicts a drawing of Santa Claus accompanied by a reindeer standing outside a gingerbread house. It was selected to represent the elementary school level. Wu is a fifth-grade student at William B. Wade Elementary School who takes art class taught by Susanti Martinez.
