In the eye of the bow-holder — CCPS middle school students compete in archery tournament

Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) hosted its 2025 Middle School Archery Tournament on Nov. 13 at Milton M. Somers Middle School. Archers from the county’s public middle schools participated, divided by grade level and into boy and girl teams. The top boy and girl archer by grade were recognized, as well as teams overall. 

Piccowaxen Middle School placed first in the contest overall with 1,315 points. Theodore G. Davis Middle School was named second with 1,083 points with Mattawoman Middle School coming in third with 920 points. Matthew Henson Middle School placed fourth, Milton M. Somers Middle School was fifth and Benjamin Stoddert Middle School came in sixth.

Grade 7 

  • Ellora Powell, Piccowaxen.  
  • Levi Sawyers, Mattawoman. 

Grade 8 

  • Erin Rice, Mattawoman. 
  • Colby Fairman, Piccowaxen.  

CCPS middle school students can try out for and participate in several district-wide athletic competitions during the school year including a golf tournament, a volleyball tournament and track and field meet.
