Rising junior at Thomas Stone elected as 2023-2024 Student Board Member

Treasure Perkins, a rising Thomas Stone High School junior, is the Student Member of the Board of Education of Charles County for the 2023-2024 school year.

A total of 1,175 student votes were cast in the election held May 1-30. Students in Grades 6-12 were eligible to vote in the election. 

The election vote was close, with Perkins receiving 614 votes (52.3%) and St. Charles High School rising senior Jamiyah Bonds receiving 561 votes (47.7%). The Charles County Association of Student Councils (CCASC) Election Oversight Committee verified the election results. Both students participated in a primary election and advanced to the final ballot. 

Perkins will be sworn into the position at the June 26 Board of Education work session. Details outlining the election process are posted on the CCASC website linked here.

Student Board Members serve one-year terms. Perkins takes over in the role, also known as SMOB, for Amira Abujuma, the 2022-2023 Student Member of the Board of Education and Class of 2023 North Point High School graduate.
