See a show at the JER Science Center this holiday season

The James E. Richmond Science Center is in the festive spirit with a slate of full dome movies playing this month.

“Let it Snow,” featuring classics from Frank Sinatra, Chuck Berry, Brenda Lee and others over animation and special effects will be shown 6:30 p.m., Dec. 10, 16 and 17.

At 6:30 p.m., Dec. 11, “The Light Before Christmas,” will be shown. The story follows two children who are rescued on Christmas Eve by a sage who imparts wisdom and stories.

All full dome shows include the movie and a brief planetarium presentation. Visitors can also take part in interactive exhibits and view the NOAA Science on a Sphere. Doors open around 6 p.m.

Tickets are $8 for adults and children ages 4 and older with center members and children younger than 4 admitted free. Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) staff are admitted free with CCPS identification.

‘Beautifica: A Celebration of Life’

James Hood’s “Beautifica: A Celebration of Life,” is showing at the James E. Richmond Science Center this month. Shows are 6:15 and 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6 and 13, and 5, 6:15 and 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 20.

The worlds of light and sound come alive in the dome experience during the show created by Hood, a composer who has been the drummer in The Pretenders and composed “Mesmerica,” another immersive 360-dome show.
