State Superintendent of Schools visits Dr. James Craik Elementary School

Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) welcomed Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Superintendent of Schools Carey M. Wright, Ed.D., this week for a visit at Dr. James Craik Elementary School.

Since the start of the new school year, Dr. Wright has been on a tour to visit various Maryland schools. “This is just a joyous time to be in the building,” Wright said. “The students are excited; the teachers are excited.” The school visits give her and the state an opportunity to interact with school staff on a more personal level and to encourage the importance of attendance for students to receive a quality education.

Wright is not a stranger to CCPS. She visited the first CCPS dual language, two-way immersion program at Arthur Middleton Elementary School last school year to show support from the state and acknowledge the work of the school system during the launch of a new program.

“We try to send the message that we care,” Wright said. “They’ve got my support, the state Board’s support, the agency’s support, and we want to let them know that.”

Board of Education of Charles County members, Superintendent of Schools Maria V. Navarro, Ed.D., and CCPS executive staff also visited select classrooms during a guided tour by Craik Principal Jason Deihl and school staff.

Wright believes that public education opens the doors for every single child that wants to walk through them. “It’s come one, come all and I think that is the beauty of our Nation and the beauty of the state,” she said.

“We appreciate the continued support from the state, and it is always a pleasure to welcome Dr. Wright to CCPS,” Navarro said.
