Editor's note: The Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 5K was canceled due to inclement weather in the forecast. Students who signed up to earn SSL hours can speak to their SSL coordinator for additional information. The event may be rescheduled.

Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) students in middle and high school can sign up to volunteer at a Turkey Trot 5K run/walk at St. Charles High School on Thanksgiving Day.

Registration is from 8 to 9 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 28, with the run/walk starting at 9 a.m. Following the 5K, there will be light refreshments.

CCPS is partnering to host the free event which is being organized by the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and LifeStyles of Maryland to benefit End Hunger in Charles County, an organization striving to end food insecurity in the county.

CCPS students in grades 6 through 12 who want to earn student service learning (SSL) hours can sign up by Nov. 15 to assist as greeters and ushers. They may also be asked to direct event participants, distribute water and refreshments, and help with registration and other activities. Students can bring a copy of the verification/reflection service-learning form to be signed by the SSL site coordinator. For a copy of the form, click here. Forms will also be available at the event.
