State of the Schools - 2024
Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) Superintendent of Schools Maria V. Navarro, Ed.D., hosted a virtual State of Schools event on Oct. 2, 2024. During the event, Navarro shared a presentation about the state of the school system, the CCPS strategic plan and discussed important resources and tools for parents and students.
The presentation includes links to several helpful parent and student resources, including curriculum supports in English/language arts and math, as well as information about social and emotional wellness, multilingual learner and special education supports. The presentation and a recording of the event are posted below. A copy of the presentation has also been posted to all school/center websites.
Parents and community members with questions about the information presented by Navarro can submit them online using the form below. Questions and answers will be added to this page as needed.
The CCPS strategic plan includes three priority areas of focus: student learning and achievement; access and opportunities; and culture and climate. Each priority area includes goals and strategies with built-in metrics to evaluate progress. An overview of the plan and metrics can be found by clicking on the link below.
School Improvement Plans
For the 2023-2024 school year, principals developed a school improvement plan to focus on for the year. Plans were reviewed throughout the school year and shared with school community stakeholders.
For the 2024-2025 school year, the metric will not focus solely on analyzing the completion rate of schools/principals in developing and implementing a school improvement plan built on a comprehensive framework. The CCPS Continuous School Improvement Plan is rather a comprehensive framework that schools will use to support teacher capacity, student achievement, and school culture and climate.
Built in this framework is a continuous improvement process to help educators agree on specific challenges they face, identify change practices that can address those challenges, implement those change practices, study their implementation and outcomes, and decide whether the change practices are worthwhile and should be implemented or scaled up in their specific contexts.
