Elementary Program of Studies

Welcome to the Charles County Public Schools Elementary Instructional Program!

CCPS is dedicated to the academic, social and emotional development of every student. At the elementary level, this is achieved through the use of evidence based instructional practices that maintain a high level of rigor and complexity. Students are instructed on a continuum of foundational and conceptual based understandings that lead to mastery of facts, strategies, and content knowledge. Instruction is differentiated to meet the needs of all levels of learners and to help every child succeed.

Our classrooms are inviting and engaging environments. Students often work in collaborative groups and participate in high-level discussions. Classroom activities and assignments are of high interest, and encourage creativity and self-expression. As students develop skills and strategies, students then apply their learning and understanding in more independent activities to demonstrate mastery.

Our elementary team, consisting of Content Specialists and Resource Teachers, serve to support our schools, students and teachers by presenting curriculum and resources of the highest quality. We also visit schools and classrooms regularly to model lessons, analyze classroom performance, and determine how we can continue to improve teaching and learning in our classrooms.

The elementary instructional team is honored to be serving the youngest students of Charles County Public Schools, and welcomes parent and community input about what we can do to better serve students and help them to reach their maximum potential.
