The physical education program is dedicated to providing safe and respectful learning experiences for all students. To promote physical literacy, students will engage in activities that explore and develop skills, concepts, and strategies, fostering confidence in movement for lifelong wellness. It is expected that all students wear appropriate attire during physical education classes to ensure the safety and hygiene of each participant. This practice remains a crucial component of the physical education program.
In elementary school:
- Students are not required to change clothes for physical education.
- Students should wear athletic footwear (sneakers) in physical education class for safety.
- Students should arrive prepared with clothing that allows for safe and appropriate movement.
The State of Maryland mandates that all K-12 grade students have access to Physical Education. Accommodations may be necessary based on a student's physical limitations or medical conditions. Individuals with disabilities may require specific strategies and adjustments to ensure effective instruction in Physical Education.
Adapted Physical Education (APE) services are available to support students when participating in general Physical Education with established curricula, as deemed appropriate. The APE Resource Teacher collaborates with the general Physical Education teacher to develop programs tailored to meet the unique needs of each student. Additionally, the resource teacher may work directly with identified students with disabilities, as needed.
