Literacy for 2nd

Helping a Transitional Reader

 

  • Check the picture.  
  • Read and think what would make sense.
  • Chunk Big Words.
  • Check the end (or middle) of the word.  What would look right and make sense?
  • Use a known part.
  • Cover the ending.  Is there a part you know?
  • Do you know another word that looks like this one?
  • Reread the sentence and look for clues.
  • What can you try?  What can you do to help yourself?
  • Put some words together so it sounds smooth.
  • Read it like the character.
  • Use Analogies.
