The Patuxent Partnership Pathways Scholarship
The Patuxent partnership (TPP) Pathways Scholarship will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who plan to attending the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) and majoring in engineering will be eligible to receive a full scholarship to cover tuition, fees and books for up to tow years, providing they continue to meet the eligibility requirements and remain in good standing.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Southern Maryland (Calvert, Charles or St. Mary's counties).
  • Enroll as a full-time student at CSM (minimum of 12 credits).
  • Possess and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPS, with no grade lower than a B in designated courses such as Calculus II and Physics, and no grade below a C in other courses.
  • Agree to apply to the Southern Maryland Pathways Program in Engineering, majoring in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland A. James Clark School, taught locally at University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland (USMSM), and enroll upon acceptance.

Application for 2026-2027 Opens Oct. 31, 2025 and closes on Jan. 31, 2026.

The Charles County NAACP Branch Salome A. Howard Scholarship

The Salome A. Howard Bar Association, Inc. (SAHBA) was founded in 2010 to serve the needs of the growing population of African American attorneys practicing in southern Maryland and to promote community service among the members. The association was honored to be named after the legendary activist, and in honor of her memory, created the scholarship to serve the needs of students pursuing a college education. Just as Mrs. Howard benefited from a college scholarship, SAHBA seeks to grant that same benefit to selected students attending the College of Southern Maryland.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:

  • Graduating seniors who currently attend St. Charles, Henry E. Lackey, LaPlata, Thomas Stone, Maurice J. McDonough, North Point or Westlake high schools and plan to attend the College of Southern Maryland.

  • Students can be enrolled full-time (12 credit hours), part-time (6 credit hours) or enrolled in a certificate program.
    Eligible Programs/Courses:

    • Associate Degree Programs – Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement, History, or Human Services

    • Certification Programs – Community Health Worker, IT Support Technician, Network Administrator, or Vertical Agriculture

  • Students who are members of the CCNAACP are also eligible to apply.

  • Applicants must be of African American descent and have a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Applications accepted until March 31, 2026.

Award Amount: $2000 per student, annually.

The Charles County Branch NAACP J. Wesley Key, Sr. Scholarship

Charter member and founding president of the Charles County Branch of the NAACP, J. Wesley Key, Sr., was born in Charles County in 1875. He devoted more than 60 years of his life advocating for the
rights of African Americans and serving as an active member of numerous fraternal, civic, religious and political organizations. In 1920, the Joshua Lodge No. 65 Independent Order of Good Samaritans and Ladies of Samaria donated the land to the Charles County Board of Education to build the county's first public high school for Black children – Pomonkey High School. Once the structures were completed in 1922, he regularly drove throughout the county to pick up students to attend and board at the school.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:

  • Graduating seniors who currently attend St. Charles, Lackey, Thomas Stone or Westlake high schools and plan to attend a two- or four-year university or college OR a career/ vocational/ technical program as a full-time student.
  • Student members of the CCNAACP are also eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must be of African-American descent and have a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Applications accepted until April 8, 2026.
