2027-2028 School Calendar Survey
Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) and the Board of Education of Charles County would like input on the 2027-2028 school calendar. The Board typically approves school calendars two years in advance.
A brief survey is linked at the bottom of the page. Please take a few minutes to review the calendar summaries and draft proposals below before completing the survey.
2027-2028 Draft Calendar
The Board of Education is seeking public input on the 2027-2028 calendar approval. At the April 2026 Board work session, staff presented to the Board two calendar options for its consideration. The Board will review survey feedback at its May 2026 meeting and is scheduled to take action on the 2027-2028 calendar in June. Please note early dismissal days are required by the negotiated teacher contract for planning time and report card/interim prep time.
Option 1
Traditional Start Model

- Start date for teachers: Aug. 16.
- Start date for students: Aug. 23.
- Sept. 17: Professional development day, no school for students.
- Oct. 11: Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples Day: schools closed for students and teacher, offices open.
- Nov. 11: Veterans Day. Schools/offices closed.
- Nov. 12: Parent/teacher conferences. Schools closed for students only.
- Nov. 24-26: Thanksgiving holiday break.
- Dec. 20-31: Winter break is two full weeks (ten calendar days).
- Jan. 18: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday observed, schools/offices closed.
- Feb. 11: Spring parent/teacher conferences. Schools closed for students only.
- Feb. 21: Presidents Day, schools/offices closed.
- March 17: Schools closed for students and teachers for long weekend. (this is inclement weather make-up day number 1 - MSDE requires 6).
- April 10-17: Spring break is a full week.
- June 9: School ends for students.
- June 12: Teacher last day.
- June 12-16: Five snow days built in after student last day.
