Proposed CTE program textbooks on display

New proposed textbooks for the physical rehabilitation career and technology education (CTE) program are on display for review at the Jesse L. Starkey Administration Building and the Robert D. Stethem Educational Center. If approved for use by the Board of Education of Charles County, the textbooks will be incorporated into program curriculum later this school year.

The physical rehabilitation CTE program is available for interested high school students and based at the Stethem Center. Staff is proposing the textbooks based on feedback from the program advisory council, as well as physical rehabilitation instructors from other programs in Maryland, and to support course curriculum.

The texts include “Therapeutic Exercise: Foundations and Techniques” authored by John Borstad, Lynn Allen Colby and Carolyn Kisner, and “Muscles: Testing and Function, with Posture and Pain” authored by Florence Kendall, Elizabeth McCreary, Patricia Provance, Mary Rodgers and William Romani.

The Board of Education is reviewing the books and will take action on the proposal at its Nov. 13 meeting. Community members are encouraged to review the books and provide comment in writing to the Board of Education, P.O. Box 2770, La Plata, MD, 20646; by email to; or in person at the 6 p.m., Public Forum set for Oct. 9 and Nov. 13 at the Starkey Building.
