GESTEM (Girls Engaged in STEM) offers girls the opportunity to explore the wonders of science in an engaging, friendly, and exciting atmosphere.
Each session is filled with exciting, hands-on experiences using science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
These experiences are designed to build interest, knowledge, and technical skills the campers can take with them into the classroom and beyond!
Creative Imaginations
Do you like solving challenges?
Creative Imaginations is a camp that offers students the opportunity to work as a group to solve a series of creative thinking challenges.
Campers will learn vital life and career skills such as critical thinking, public speaking, and collaborative problem solving
that will help them feel empowered and set them up for success in the future.
Basketball Skills and Drills
Have fun learning and practicing fundamental skills in the game of basketball including passing, layups, dribbling, shooting, and team defense.
Skills are reinforced with daily organized scrimmages and focused on sportsmanship, teamwork, and fair play.
Exploring STEM through Hands-on Activities
Campers can expect to explore gravity through the creation of a nest and an egg drop.
Speed through the creation, testing, and racing of a wooden car. Simulate flight by creating various paper airplanes.
Students will take home all completed projects to enjoy and enhance their STEM learning experience.

Dance and Cheer Camp
Do you like to dance? Do you like to cheer?
Middle school students will learn dance and cheer fundamentals, gain experience, explore their growing confidence all while having tons of fun!
Dance and Cheer campers will hold a performance for parents/guardians at the end of the week!
Summer Band Camp
Don’t let your musical talents go idle over the summer!
Current band students interested in playing new music, learning new skills, playing fun musical games, and
making new friends should register for Summer Band Camp.

Enter the world of Percy Jackson and Camp Half-Blood!
We will learn about Greek Mythology, participate in Percy Jackson book trivia games, compete in cabin challenges, as well as design your cabin flag.
Students will compete in scavenger hunts leading to one great game of Capture the Flag Camp Half-Blood style!

Campers will explore art through a new lens to create their own masterpieces.

Don’t let your musical talents go idle over the summer!
Current stringed instrument students will be introduced to exercises and pieces that promote and
develop proper use of the bow and left hand techniques for the violin, viola, and cello.
Campers will get a sample of what it is like to play an orchestra arrangement and will create musical themed posters.
Fascinating Fiction: Creative Writing Workshop
Do you like to write fictional stories? Fascinating Fiction will teach students how to write fictional stories that will engage readers.
Students will be taught the parts of a story and various narration techniques.

This camp will provide a training clinic for children interested in learning the fundamentals of basketball.
Campers will also learn “team work makes the dream work” mentality. A bit of running laps, pairing up for passing drills,
free throw challenges, one-on-one challenges, and a full court game after learning the fundamentals.
Jump Start
Get a Jump Start on first and second grade in this camp!
Campers will practice math concepts, reading comprehension, phonic awareness skills and will

Kids Sip and Paint

strategies needed for prose and poetry analysis through collaborative discussion, then practice on a short story.
Each lesson ends in a paragraph assessment, styled after the AP Lit paragraph responses in the new CED.

CTE Exploration Camp
The Career & Technical Education (CTE) Summer Camp is available to students enrolled in Charles County Middle School entering 7th & 8th grade in Fall 2022. This camp provides students the opportunity to explore different CTE programs with hands-on projects each day.
The CTE Camp will be held Monday-Wednesday from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Session1: June 27-29 | Session 2: July 11-13 | Session 3: July 18-20

During registration, the family will choose ONE week for the student to attend and provide two career pathways that the student would like to participate in. There is no guarantee of placement in these programs during the camp due to weekly program offerings. Students interested in the CTE Camp and are participating in Summer School, or the summer Boost program should select the Week 1 camp, June 27 - June 29.

Lackey Summer Youth Camp
The Summer Youth Camp provides supervised activities in the following areas: soccer, touch football, basketball, floor hockey, swimming, kickball, Wiffle ball and other games. Camp activities will adhere to Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) COVID-19 operating procedures. CCPS employees receive a 50% discount on the cost of the camp.

Experience a mini Indiana Jones style camp adventure! Solve treasure maps, construct ancient temples, and master the “forbidden temple maze” using Sphero technology. This camp emphasizes STEM challenges, archaeology vs. pseudoscience, block coding, and team problem solving. There will be swimming two days a week and an offsite fieldtrip.

Science Behind the Stories
Everyone enjoys a good book. We can all find the use of science inside some of the most exciting stories! Experience a camp full of great stories and even better experiments. This camp emphasizes reading comprehension, using context clues, and learning how to see scientific concepts inside of everyday stories. Campers will learn coding. There will be swimming two days a week.

The Junior Space Entrepreneur Program
This program will better prepare today’s youth to obtain and fulfill positions within STEM-based companies by providing an immersive educational experience. JSEP places students in immersive scenarios that teach and enhance necessary 21st Century Essential Skills and connects those skills to real-world careers. Participants will embark on a complete Mars mission encompassing all the challenges that come with sending astronauts to our neighboring planet and returning them safely to the Earth and more!

Campers will explore all the gross but helpful ways the immune system, respiratory system, and digestive system help the body to function in
tiptop shape. In addition to the human body, animals with extreme characteristics, such as eating blood or producing slime will be explored. Experimental models will be used to help with concepts and scientific processes. All body fluids will be synthetic. There will be swimming two days a week.
