Ms. Burns was named principal at the F.B. Gwynn Educational Center in 2014. She previously served as a vice principal at Mary B. Neal Elementary School for four years. She started her education career in 1998 as a general and special education teacher with Prince George’s County and moved to Charles County Public Schools in 2008 as an IEP facilitator.
Burns has a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Trinity University, Washington, D.C. and a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood/Special Education from Bowie State University.
|Dr. Laurie Johnson-Brown
Dr. Laurie Johnson-Brown was appointed vice principal at F. B. Gwynn Educational September 2016. She had previously been the vice principal at Dr. Samuel Mudd, Mt. Hope Nanjemoy and J. P. Ryon Elementary Schools in Charles County. She also served as an instructional specialist at Piccowaxen Middle School.
Dr. A (as she is known throughout the county) began her career in teaching in 2000 in the Christina School District in Newark, DE. She has also taught at North East High School in North East, Maryland.
Dr. A has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Saint Paul’s College, a Master of Science in Special Education from Wilmington University, and a Doctorate of Philosophy from Capella University.
Dr. A’s passion for education and student achievement has always driven her to continue to be better. Her life motto is taken from one of her mentors, the late Dr. Rita Pierson, who said, “Every child deserves a champion.” Dr. A strives to be that champion daily.
