Best Buddies pairs high school students with intellectual disabilities in one-to-one friendships with their non-disabled peers. In the past, individuals with intellectual disabilities have not had the opportunity to have friends outside of their own special education classroom. By introducing the Best Buddies program into the school, we are crossing the invisible line that too often separates those with disabilities from those without.

As a peer buddy, you commit to making weekly contact with your buddy and getting together outside of school twice a month. Additionally, the group meets regularly as a club and does group activities on a monthly basis. Even if you’re not paired up, there’s something for everybody! J The main goal of Best Buddies is to increase social opportunities for students with disabilities and for everyone to have fun. (www.bestbuddiesmaryland.org)
