Sonia Blue was named principal of Mattawoman Middle School in 2015. In 2016, she was Charles County Principal of the Year.  Prior to serving as principal at Mattawoman, Blue served as principal of Matthew Henson Middle School for four years. She began her employment with Charles County Public Schools as a vice principal in 2006 and is an educator with more than 20 years of experience.

Prior to accepting employment in Charles County, Ms. Blue worked for Prince Georges County Public Schools and D.C. Public Schools. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Morgan State University and a Master of Arts in curriculum and instruction from McDaniel College.

Mr. Anthony Carroll

Anthony Carroll was named the 12 month vice principal of Mattawoman Middle School in 2020. In 2019, Mr. Carroll was named Charles County Vice Principal of the Year. Prior to joining Mattawoman, Mr. Carroll served as vice principal at Matthew Henson Middle School. Mr. Carroll joined Charles County Public Schools in 2011 serving as an Instructional Resource Teacher at Matthew Henson and General Smallwood Middle School.

 

Prior to joining Charles County Public Schools, Mr. Carroll served 11 years in Prince George’s County Public Schools serving as a 6th, 7th, 8th grade teacher and one year as a resource teacher. Mr. Carroll has a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from North Carolina A&T State University and a Bachelor of Science in Curriculum and Instruction with Administration Focus from McDaniel College. Mr. Carroll brings over 21 years worth of knowledge and experience to the Mattawoman family.

Ms. Portia Parker
8th Grade Vice Principal

Portia Parker is a dedicated educator with over 15 years of experience in education. Prior to joining Charles County Public Schools, Ms. Parker worked for Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools, Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools, and Camden County Schools; all of which are located in North Carolina. As a former math teacher, she has taught students from seventh to twelfth grades across many different sections of math content. Ms. Parker has coached high school and middle school basketball, as well as middle school softball and has supervised several clubs in her various schools. Ms. Parker holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a Concentration in Applied Mathematics, and a Minor in Computer Science, and a Master of Science in Mathematics Education both from Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City North Carolina.

In 2018, Robert Baker as named as a vice principal at Mattawoman Middle School. Before coming to Mattawoman as an administrator, Mr. Baker served as vice principal at Milton Somers for 3 years. Mr. Baker was also the instruction resource teacher at Mattawoman for 5 years from 2010 – 2015. Mr. Baker started his teaching career as a math teacher with Charles County Public School in 2002.

 

Mr. Baker graduated from the State University of New York College at Fredonia in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Mr. Baker also graduated from Notre Dame of Maryland University in 2007 with a Master of Arts in Leadership in Teacher and Administration.

Nyesha Lanes Sherman is a dedicated educator with more that 20 years of experience. Before accepting employment for Charles County Public Schools, Ms. Lanes Sherman worked for the NYC Department of Education, DC Public Schools, and Prince Georges County Public Schools. She has taught various grade levels and has served in various capacities within her schools including, Cheerleading Coach, Mentor Teacher, and Title-I Coordinator. She holds Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Howard University and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Trinity University in DC.
